Thanks to voters, Tacoma Public Schools continues to build beautiful spaces for student learning. Our Planning & Construction team were hard at work this summer and students and staff will be returning to new and transformed spaces across the district.

New schools open their doors

This week, Tacoma students were welcomed back to two new schools: Lowell Elementary and Maritime|253 Skills Center.

We’re also celebrating major updates at Foss High School including a new courtyard, energy-efficient lighting, fresh paint and new flooring. At Jennie Reed Elementary, a nearly completed remodel brings refreshed classrooms, new carpet, and an updated exterior paint and siding. Edison Elementary students and staff are returning to a new school sign and upgraded hallways.

Students at five schools are also kicking off the year with brand-new athletic fields: Silas and Mount Tahoma high schools, Truman and Gray middle schools, and Birney Elementary.

Construction continues on the replacement school for Whittier Elementary, and the new IDEA is currently in the design phase.
