11..25 Message from Principal O'Brien

Good Evening, Bryant Families,

Here are the messages from Bryant for this week.

Food drive: Last call. Bryant’s community food drive ended Friday – but you might have some items that you have not yet brought to school. Please bring any items to school on Monday.

Calendar Items:

  • No school on 11/26-11/30.
  • Friday, 12/5: no school for students at Bryant: elementary AND middle school.
  • Picture retakes: Tuesday, 12/2 for those who missed the chance last week.

No soda. No energy drinks.

We have noticed an uptick in soda and energy drinks being brought to school by students.  While it does not specifically state in the handbook that we do not allow energy drink or soda, we do ask for families’ support by not sending children to school with sugary or unhealthy drinks.  Both soda and energy drinks have high levels of caffeine. Energy drinks are also sold as “nutritional supplements” so they are not regulated as foods. This means their labels often don’t reveal the exact amount of caffeine in each drink.  Studies have shown that energy drinks can cause irregular heart rhythms, restlessness, stomachaches, headaches, and nervousness. On top of that, we see students share energy drinks with others, which is a safety concern.

Starting Monday, we are asking that students not bring energy drinks or soda to school.  If a student chooses to consume soda or energy drinks, we ask that they do so before coming to school in the morning or after going home at the end of the day.

We appreciate your support in keeping our students healthy, focused, and ready for a day of learning.

PTO News

What a night was Movie night

We sat in chairs or snuggled in blankets with our stuffies, as we watched  Wild Robot, a robot that learned to care for others, just like we do. Popcorn, friends and in some cases three generations of families watched, and a fun time was had by all. Huge shout out to the Lower El students who picked the movie, to those who helped with the popcorn, and to Mark Craypo solved all our AV issues.

Food Drive

Thank you all as we close out our food drive and start preparing the food for those families in need this holiday season. The food donations, and the help of the Bryant Community Center will brighten many a table this Thanksgiving. And thank you to the families that donated over $2000 so that we can add fresh produce to the baskets.

Speaking of food

Recipe Book! The Bryant Montessori PTO has an exciting community-building project in the works - a cookbook! We need your help in gathering recipes that reflect our unique and diverse community. Please use the link to share a recipe that is special to your family. A handwritten or photocopied recipe may also be sent in with your student.  Recipes should be submitted prior to November 19th so that the book may be published and available for purchase by mid-December. Don’t forget, with more holidays coming, so is our giving tree.

Thank you! We are so proud to be part of a caring community. From big things like the food drive and Monster Mash, little things like picking up the trash around school and clearing the street drains, important things like volunteering in class, reading to classes, the fun things like field trips and popcorn making, and community things like our garden, work parties and all.  You each make a difference in the lives of not only your child, but in all the children. THANK YOU!

Don’t forget, with more holidays coming, so is our giving tree.

Middle School Families,

Progress reports available Nov. 17
Starting Nov. 17, you can view mid-term report cards in ParentVUE. Students will be able to view them in StudentVUE.

That’s all for tonight. Good night!
