9.21.25 Message from Principal O'Brien

Good Evening, Bryant Families,

Here are the messages from Bryant for this week.

Middle School Camp approaches fast. Campers leave on Wednesday. We consider camp central to our middle school, and we hope that all middle school students will attend unless there are unavoidable complications. Camp costs $180 per student, but in MySchoolBucks, each family gets charged on a sliding scale related to free/reduced lunch status. Log in to MySchoolBucks to see the amount owed. About half of families have paid. If we have a remaining fee, it will come from our school budget, which is already reduced and will impact all student activities for this year. If you need to make payment arrangements, please call the office and speak to Judith. Thank you!

Curriculum Night. Elementary teachers are organizing an evening of parent education about Montessori instruction this Thursday, September 25th from 5:30-7. Teachers will make presentations at 5:35, 6:05, and 6:35, with ten minutes transition in between to allow families to see other presentations. There is also time to explore Montessori materials. To help parents focus, the PTO and YMCA staff will provide childcare in our cafeteria. … But we need to know numbers. If you are considering attending, please take this childcare survey to guide our preparation.

1st graders and 5th graders will get new laptops on Tuesday.

  • Families of 5th graders, please ensure that your 5th grader takes their laptop and charging cable to school Monday. Teachers will collect and hold them.
  • Families of 1st graders, it makes the most sense to keep the laptops at school in the charging carts where they are available for teachers to use with students. Talk to your child’s teacher to change this plan.

Garden work party. The Bryant Garden Team invites all families to work alongside us in the garden on Saturday, Oct. 4th from 9-noon. Sponsorship from Upper El students will provide delicious treats. Make friends and join the fun!

When should kids stay home from school?

Help keep students and staff safe by limiting the spread of infectious illnesses and keeping your child home from school when they are sick. Students should stay home if:

  • They are too sick to participate in normal activities
  • They need a level of care or observation not manageable at school
  • They create an unhealthy or unsafe environment for others

When children have respiratory virus symptoms, including cough, fever or chills, health care authorities recommend they return to normal activities when both of the following are true for at least 24 hours:

  • Symptoms are getting better overall, and
  • No fever (and not using fever-reducing medication)
