Bryant Montessori students took up their bikes, scooters, and tennis shoes on Friday for their Walk & Roll to School event.
Families and students were welcomed with cheers from Bryant staff and a special visit from Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards, who came to show how proud the city is of their efforts to be active and ride safely.
Neighborhood connection and safety was a big theme for staff and parents as they were excited to be back in their own neighborhood this year after the construction of their new school building.
Teacher and event organizer Ed Wilhelme saw the day as more than just fun — it was a chance for students to connect with their surroundings and for families to learn about Tacoma’s Safe Routes to School program. "It’s good for students," he noted, adding that movement also boosts learning.
One parent loved that her kids often opened up more as she chaperoned the walking school bus.
Principal Neil O’Brien was excited for the ways this taught students about caring for the planet.
Great job Bryant students! Keep on walking and rolling!
